SUMMARY:Get to Know the Lighthouse - "The Lighthouse and Uncle Sam"
DESCRIPTION:The Lighthouse for the Blind\, Inc. has been providing employment for people who are blind for 100 years\, right here in Seattle. Many locals will remember us in our earlier years for our brooms and neck ties\, for our work with Boeing\, and our office products for the Federal Government. But what may not be as well-known is our work with the Department of Defense and the many products we produce in support of our military. \nSince 1918\, the Lighthouse has grown from a handful of employees to over 260 who are blind\, including nearly 40 who are DeafBlind. Here is your opportunity to visit us and tour our manufacturing facility and see firsthand how folks who are blind or DeafBlind are working all facets of production\, the accessibility features put in place\, and the specialized training offered to our employees. This is a behind the scenes experience with some personal touches included. \nThis is our final “Get To Know” event of 2018 and we’d love for you to be a part of it. Bring a friend or colleague and get ready to be inspired! \nThe deadline for accommodation requests is October 26\, 2018. \nShare this:EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitter

Our product line now includes office supplies for the federal government\, military products for the Department of Defense\, and aerospace parts for companies including Boeing. \nWe invite you to join us for a tour of our manufacturing facility in Seattle. Learn how machining and other manufacturing jobs have been made accessible to people who are blind and DeafBlind. Guests will also be introduced to assistive technology\, braille\, and other specialized training offered here at the Lighthouse. And one of our employees will even share their personal journey. \nThis is an event to be shared with all members of the community.
